Across five spellbinding books, join an extraordinary journey with two unlikely companions as they discover ancient enchantments, explore hidden islands, uncover secret caverns, and meet grumpy tree spirits. It’s an adventure that will capture the hearts of young readers aged 8-12.

In a special interview with Karen, she unveils the magic behind the Kalika saga, reveals her storytelling techniques, and shares her joy of nurturing young talents at her writing workshops.

‘The Fish That Wanted to Fly’ invites us into the world of Sanjeev, a curious Goldfish from India. One bright day, Sanjeev spots a majestic eagle gliding through the sky and dreams of flying too. Despite his efforts, things don’t unfold as he hopes, yet he discovers a powerful truth:

“Sometimes we want to be like others, but the best thing is to be ourselves.”

Amy Kuruvilla crafted this heartwarming tale while shaping ‘The Road to Respect,’ a transformative school program designed to dismantle the cycle of gender-based violence in India through the power of education. ‘The Fish That Wanted to Fly’ carries a vital message, celebrating our uniqueness and teaching children the importance of valuing their own individuality over comparison. Amy’s vision extends beyond storytelling; she supports ‘The Road to Respect’ program with the book’s proceeds and has been gifting this inspiring story to children across India.

We’re thrilled to invite you to an engaging conversation with Amy, where she shares the journey behind her storytelling and her dedicated efforts to make a difference in the lives of school children in India.

Growing up, Blake Kendall was captivated by the vivid tales of his family’s past, shared by his mother. After her battle with cancer came to an end, Blake took it upon himself to fulfill his mother’s dream by penning the book she always wanted to write. This compelling narrative, seen through the eyes of his ancestors’ matriarchs, begins in the Basque country of Spain in 1830, before journeying to Australia, where they settle on the land of the First Nations people. ‘Those Bloody Trees’ is a masterpiece of rich, poetic prose that ensnares the reader from the first page.

Blake reflects, “It’s about dealing with First Nation dispossession and all of those layers of what it means for a family and community and generations to try to have a connection with the land although they only exist because of the exploitation of somebody else.”

‘Those Bloody Trees’ is not just a story; it’s an exploration of the deep, complex ties that bind us to the land and to each other, across generations and cultures. It’s a journey into the heart of what it means to seek connection in a place marked by the footsteps of those who came before.
